Microsoft DirectX 9.0 is your backstage pass to multimedia applications that sizzle.

Where Applicable

DirectX is a set of low-level application programming interfaces (APIs) for creating games and other high-performance multimedia applications. It includes support for high-performance 2-D and 3-D graphics, sound, and input.

Developer Audience

This documentation set is for developers using the Microsoft .NET Framework. Separate documentation is available for developers using the C/C++ programming language.

Run-Time Requirements

DirectX 9.0 can be used in the Microsoft Windows 98, Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me), Windows 2000, and Windows XP environments.
