Summary:
SYMPTOMS
After installing a Basic DOS LAN Manager version 2.0 workstation,
when attempting to start Windows/286, a message is displayed
stating that the memory configuration has changed.
CAUSE
The DOS LAN Manager Basic redirector is utilizing the High Memory
Area provided by HIMEM.SYS. This provides approximately 30K in
memory savings over the non-HIMEM.SYS configuration.
RESOLUTION
The following are two workarounds:
1. To disable this functionality, modify the LANMAN.INI file as
follows:
start workstation $1
start redirector $1
start wksta $1
start rdr $1
chknet
minses
< redir /L:9 /S:9
> redir /L:9 /S:9 /HIMEM:NO
setname $1
That is, add the line /HIMEM:NO to the REDIR line in LANMAN.INI.
2. Run MEMSET.EXE from Windows/286 to make available memory
"Windows compatible."
