PRB: Resolving Net 3251: "Initialization Failed...RPL.MAP..."

ID Number: Q62939

2.00

OS/2

Summary:

SYMPTOM

The following error message occurs when trying to start the

remoteboot service:

Net 3251: Initialization failed because of an invalid line

configuration file RPL.MAP. The invalid line is the data.

RESOLUTION

Carefully check the RPL.MAP file in the \LANMAN\RPL directory for

spaces.

While editing the .FIT file to change the default workstation

record to match the new computer name .FIT file, it is very easy to

accidentally delete the space between RPLSERVR and the tilde,

especially when using the E editor because E uses proportional

spaced display fonts. For example

DEFAULT.FIT:

???????????? DEFAULT ~ DOS401 RPLSERVR ~ ~ ~ ~ ,,, Z R_DOS ~ ~

???????????? DEFAULT ~ FITS\DEFAULT RPLSERVR ~ ~ ~ ~ ,,, ~ D_OS2 ~ ~

100045832988 DEFAULT ~ FITS\DEFAULT RPLSERVR ~ ~ ~ ~ ,,, ~ D_OS2 ~ ~

COMPUTER1.FIT:

???????????? DEFAULT ~ DOS401 NEWSRVR ~ ~ ~ ~ ,,, Z R_DOS ~ ~

???????????? DEFAULT ~ FITS\DEFAULT NEWSRVR ~ ~ ~ ~ ,,, ~ D_OS2 ~ ~

100045832988 DEFAULT ~ FITS\COMPUTER1 NEWSRVR ~ ~ ~ ~ ,,, ~ D_OS2 ~ ~

where COMPUTER1 is the name of the OS/2 RIPL client, and NEWSRVR is

the computer name of the server that is sharing the work

directories.

With LAN Manager version 2.1, there is now a Presentation Manager

application, RPLMGR, that adds or deletes all workstation records. The

user should never manually edit the RPL.MAP file.
