Summary:
SYMPTOMS
When an application attempts to activate an Excel embedded object
using the procedures of the Object Linking and Embedding (OLE)
libraries, Excel does not activate the object. Excel does allocate
memory on behalf of the object.
CAUSE
Although the restrictions on OLE object names are the same as for
DOS filenames, Excel version 3.0 does not activate an object that
has a backslash (\), forward slash (/), or colon (:) as part of its
name.
RESOLUTION
Avoid using the three characters, which were specified above, in
the names of Excel objects.
