Summary:
PROBLEM ID: WIN9101005
SYMPTOMS
When Windows version 3.0 is installed on a system with an 8514/a
display, and an application replaces a font with another of the
same height and face name but with a different width, some new
characters are written with the old font.
CAUSE
The 8514/a driver contains a cache routine to ensure that the
driver does not waste time loading a font that is already loaded on
the video board. The cache routine checks the height and face name
of a font; however, it ignores the width of the new font.
RESOLUTION
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows version
3.0. To work around this problem, select a font with a different
height or face name and write some text with that font before
selecting the font with the original face name and height. This
extra font cannot be the system default font.
This problem was corrected in Windows version 3.1.
