Summary:
Versions 1.12 and 1.13 of the NMAKE utility fail to run on a machine
that has an 8088 or an 8086 processor. This is due to the fact that
these files were inadvertently built with some 80286-specific
processor instructions. These versions of NMAKE run without problems
on any 80286 system (or later), but will immediately return you to the
command prompt if invoked on an 8086 or 8088.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in NMAKE versions 1.12
and 1.13. We are researching this problem and will post new
information here as it becomes available.
