Summary:

PROBLEM ID: QCW9203003

SYMPTOMS

When using the Microsoft QuickC for Windows (QC/Win) Graphical

Development Environment version 1.0, the incorrect window may be

modified if multiple windows are displaying a single source file

and a different source file is opened and modified by pressing the

BACKSPACE key.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in QC/Win version 1.0.

We are researching this problem and will post new information here

as it becomes available.

More Information:

The QC/Win editor allows multiple windows to display a single source

file. If a user has more than one window of the same source file open,

and a different source file is then opened and an attempt is made to

delete text from that file with the BACKSPACE key, deletions will

actually be made to all previously opened windows and not to the

current window being edited. For example:

1. Choose Open from the File menu and open any existing file.

2. Choose New Window from the Window menu. Another window displaying

the same file should appear.

3. Open another different file.

4. Position the cursor anywhere in that file and attempt to delete some

characters in this window using the BACKSPACE key.

The cursor will move as you press the BACKSPACE key. However,

characters will not be deleted and the two windows behind will show

that there has been a modification (an asterisk in the caption after

the name of the file) and any characters in the same cursor position

the BACKSPACE key was in the other window will be deleted.

If the file has already been modified, the asterisk will already be

visible in the caption, so it may be difficult to determine where any

unknown modifications have occurred.
