Summary:

If you have installed the OS/2 LAN Manager UPS service and it doesn't

work correctly (assuming that you have installed it correctly), your

computer may have a non-standard serial (COMx) port that will not work

with the UPS service. The problem is that these ports set the serial

control lines high, thus preventing the UPS service from detecting the

AC POWER OUT signal that goes out low (in the battery backup mode). A

similar behavior occurs when the power to the UPS is returned -- no

signal is detected by the UPS service.

If this is the problem, in order to use the OS/2 LAN Manager UPS

service with your system, you must purchase an add-on serial port and

not use the serial port on the motherboard.
