PRB: Data Corruption on Compaq Machines

ID Number: Q77364

2.00

OS/2

Summary:

SYMPTOM

There is a problem with the DISK01.SYS driver included on Compaq's

OS/2 version 1.21 that can lead to data loss if hardware fault

tolerance (data guarding or mirroring) and HPFS partitions are

used.

When one of the drives being mirrored or data guarded fails and a

new drive is installed, you are prompted to rebuild data on the new

drive. At this point, the data on the good drives (being mirrored

or duplexed) might be corrupted.

RESOLUTION

Compaq has confirmed this to be a problem and they are distributing

a new DISK01.SYS driver that will correct this problem. To obtain a

new DISK01.SYS driver (dated on 8/26/91 or later), contact Compaq

technical support at (800) 345-1518 and ask for a new DISK01.SYS

driver.
