Summary:
SYMPTOMS
After successfully running the installation procedures for
both the server and the DOS workstations, the DOS workstations
cannot use the SQL server. SQLTESTR, SQLTESTW, and ISQL each fail
with the following error messages:
1. SQLTESTR generates a "NET 803 ERROR: Network path not found"
error.
2. SQLTESTW fails with a DB-LIBRARY (db-lib) error when you use
the connect option.
3. ISQL generates a "NET818: Network name not found" error message.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if you are unable to access named pipes.
RESOLUTION
The following are two solutions to this problem:
1. You may need to execute a NET SHARE IPC$ command. This is done
automatically when using user-level security, but needs to be
done manually in share-level security.
2. You may not have enhanced DOS LAN Manager named pipes available.
These pipes are needed for the SQL Server. To check if these pipes
are available, use the NET VIEW command. If NET VIEW returns
"command not found," you have the basic LAN Manager installed,
and if so, you need to install the enhanced DOS LAN Manager.
