INF: Installing a Nondedicated Server for SQL Server

ID Number: Q61779

OS/2

Summary:

When installing LAN Manager version 2.0 and optimizing for SQL server,

you should choose the nondedicated server option when presented with

the following question under "SERVER PRIMARY PARAMETERS":

Dedicated Server Y/N

For a dedicated LAN server, the LAN Manager installer assigns large

buffer sizes for the server. Thus, at run time, the LAN Manager server

will use a large portion of available RAM. However, SQL Server itself

requires a large portion of available RAM. Therefore, to make SQL

Server run faster, install a nondedicated LAN server.

If you need to increase your LAN server performance at a later date,

you can modify the LAN server parameters in the LANMAN.INI file.
