by Microsoft Press, 1990)

- Online references to each component of the Windows API in Windows

Help format. Includes both 5.25-inch and 3.5-inch disks.

- WINAPI.TXT: Function, Type, and Constant declarations in Visual

Basic format for nearly every Windows API function. Note: A

correction for the WINAPI.TXT file dated 5/14/91 is described in a

separate article in this knowledge base. To find that article,

query on the following words: WINAPI.TXT and correction.

- APIXREF.HLP: Quick reference listing the value of every constant

and the appropriate library for every function.

Microsoft Visual Basic Control Development Kit (CDK)

The Visual Basic CDK, formerly shipped separately as an add-on product

from Microsoft, is now shipped as part of Microsoft Professional

Toolkit for Microsoft Visual Basic version 1.0 for Windows.

The CDK enables you to develop Visual Basic controls to extend the

Visual Basic toolbox to meet your specific needs. Custom controls can

be placed on forms and used just as built-in controls. You determine

the appearance and functionality, including properties and events, of

each control. Includes both 5.25-inch and 3.5-inch disks.

The CDK requires Microsoft Windows Software Development Kit (SDK)

version 3.0 or later and Microsoft C compiler version 6.0 or later.

Note: Custom controls are written in C and require extensive knowledge

of the Windows API.

Microsoft Windows Help Compiler

The Windows Help system allows you to provide online Help to those

using your Visual Basic application. The Help Compiler supports

hypertext links and context-sensitive Help screens, using the Windows

Help engine. Includes both 5.25-inch and 3.5-inch disks. Includes a

sample Help file and a sample Visual Basic program (which doubles as

an application to test help files).

Windows Help Compiler requires an RTF (rich text formatting) text

editor, such as Microsoft Word for Windows.

Microsoft Professional Toolkit for Visual Basic

New programming tools and controls in the Professional Toolkit make it

easier for programmers to access the newest technology in Windows,

including multimedia, handwriting recognition, and object linking and

embedding (OLE). Also included are a collection of custom controls

that allow you to quickly plug advanced features and functionality

This kit contains SQL programming libraries, a preliminary

documentation set, and a copy of Visual Basic programming system for

Windows. It allows Visual Basic you to quickly develop rich Windows

graphical client-server applications for Microsoft SQL Server. You can

also use Visual Basic Library for SQL Server with the Database

GatewayÔ from Micro Decisionware, Boulder, Colo., to build

graphical applications that tap DB2 Ô and other IBM mainframe data

sources.
