This manual provides you with an overview and alphabetical reference of the functions, messages, command strings, data types, and file formats for the Multimedia extensions. Other MDK documentation describes additional aspects of the software-development process. In addition to the Programmer's Reference, the MDK includes the following manuals:
The Getting Started manual is intended for both multimedia application programmers and multimedia authors. It describes the MDK and other software required to develop multimedia applications and explains how to install the MDK software.
The Programmer's Workbook explains in detail how to use the services of the Multimedia extensions to create multimedia applications. This workbook is intended for multimedia application programmers.
The Data Preparation Tools User's Guide describes the data-preparation tools provided with the MDK. These tools allow authors to edit media elements, such as bitmaps and waveforms, and to convert data files.
The Multimedia Authoring Guide describes the authoring process for multimedia titles. This guide describes how to acquire and prepare data for multimedia titles.
The Multimedia Viewer Developer's Guide describes how to build titles for the Multimedia Viewer software.
If you're an application programmer, you will find this reference and the Programmer's Workbook to be most useful in learning about programming for Windows with Multimedia. Also, multimedia authors will find the information on file formats and the descriptions of the MCI command strings useful.
