This workbook provides information that experienced Windows 3.0 programmers can use to include multimedia features in their applications. The workbook includes the following information:
Chapter 1 introduces the development environment for writing multimedia applications.
Chapter 2 describes the Media Control Interface (MCI). MCI is an extensible software interface that provides high-level, device-independent capabilities for controlling media such as audio and animation resources, audio/visual peripherals, and external devices like videodisc players.
Chapters 3 through 5 describe the audio functions of the Multimedia extensions, including waveform audio, MIDI, and compact-disc audio.
Chapters 6 and 7 describe the animation functions of the Multimedia extensions.
Chapter 8 describes the enhanced multimedia video services. Chapter 9 describes high-resolution timer services and joystick input services.
Chapter 10 describes the multimedia file I/O services.
The Appendix describes how to write screen savers for Windows with Multimedia. The Glossary defines terms used in this workbook and in the Programmer's Reference.
You should read Chapters 1 and 2 for a general overview of the Multimedia extensions. After reading these chapters, refer to those chapters that discuss the particular multimedia features you want to include in your applications.
