Chapter 5 Building the Title

Once you create the topic file(s) for your Viewer title and its associated project file, you can begin to build the title. This chapter describes how to build a title and covers the following areas:

Building a title without a search index

Building a title with a search index

Troubleshooting problems that occur during the build

Displaying the finished Viewer title

The following pages describe each of these processes. After you've created the topic files and project file, the job of building the title is quite simple.

The number of topic files affects the amount of time required to complete the build. Titles consisting of a small number of files compile quickly; titles with large numbers of files can require several hours of compile time. For large titles, you might want to start the build process at the end of the day and let it work all night. (You can also start a build at the MS-DOS prompt within Windows, then change its settings to run in the background while you use other applications. For more information, see the Microsoft Windows User's Guide.)

Note:

If your title is too large to build under MS-DOS, you can compile under OS/2 instead. All instructions for building under MS-DOS apply unless otherwise indicated.
