Entering Context Strings

Each topic must have a context string. The context string identifies the topic elsewhere in the title. For example, you must provide the context string in jumps to identify the topic you're jumping to. You insert the context string using number-sign (#) footnotes in Word for Windows.

·To enter a context string:

1.Move the cursor to the beginning of the words “Topic 1.”

2.From the Insert menu, choose Footnote. Enter a number sign as the footnote character.

3.Enter the following text as the footnote reference:

Topic1

4.Now repeat steps 1 through 3 for Topic 2. However, instead of entering “Topic1” as the footnote text, enter “Topic2.” Your Word screen should look like this:

Now that you've identified your topics, it's time to insert a jump from Topic 1
to Topic 2.
