Index Keyword Guidelines

When adding index keywords, keep in mind the following guidelines:

A topic must have a title footnote before you can assign it index keywords.

Index keywords can include any standard character, including accented characters. You can embed spaces between words to create an index keyword consisting of a multiple-word phrase. For example, you could make “Tennessee Valley Authority” a single index keyword as follows:

K Petroleum;Natural Gas;Tennessee Valley Authority;Kentucky Dam;

Viewer ignores any formatting set for index keywords (such as bold or underline).

The index search handles uppercase and lowercase letters the same—for example, “AGRICULTURE” is the same as “agriculture.”

A keyword footnote can have up to 1,023 characters. Use extra K footnotes if one is not enough.
