Index Keywords

Index keywords are used for searches with the Index command button. The dialog box for the Index command displays a list of index keywords and associated topics. The user can jump to a listed topic from the dialog box. Each topic can have multiple index keywords.

In the Title

Index keywords don't appear directly in topics. All the index keywords for a .MVB file appear in the dialog box for the Index command button. When the user selects a keyword, the dialog box displays the titles in which the keyword appears, as shown in the preceding illustration for “Topic Title.”

In the Topic File

Index keywords are entered using a K footnote, as shown in the following illustration:

RTF Format

K{\footnote format-codes {format-codes K}keyword-text;[ keyword-text;]...}

Parameters

format-codes

RTF codes for paragraph and character formatting.

keyword-text

Text of the keyword that will appear in the topic list for the Index command. Index keywords can include any standard character, including spaces and accented characters. The index keyword search treats uppercase and lowercase characters as identical. Multiple index keywords are separated by semicolons.

Example

This example inserts the keywords “James Polk,” “John Slidell,” “Zachary Taylor,” “Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo,” and “Gen. Santa Anna” into a topic using a K footnote:

K{\footnote \pard\plain \s245 \fs20 {\fs16\up6 K} James Polk; John Slidell; Zachary Taylor; Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo; Gen. Santa Anna}
