12.3.1 Embedding Existing Objects

Existing objects are those that have already been created using another application and are ready to be pasted into the destination document. The procedure of embedding existing objects can be centered around the Paste Special dialog box in a manner similar to that shown in Figure 46.

You use the Paste Special command to embed an object that has already been created.

Source: The source application and the name of the file containing the original copy of the object.

Data: Type Lists the presentation formats available for the information on the Clipboard. These vary from application to application. Make sure you select the data type ending with the word “object,” as in PC Paintbrush Picture Object, shown in the preceding illustration.

Since the user can typically embed objects both into and from the container document, procedures should be provided for both when appropriate.
