Modifying the Tools Menu

The Tools menu is a convenient place from which to run frequently used DOS and Windows programs while you are in the development environment. Once you've added an application to the Tools menu, you can run it from the menu. You use the Tools command from the Options menu to add, delete, and edit Tools menu items.

You can add up to eight commands to the Tools menu, including DOS commands as well as DOS and Windows applications.

To familiarize yourself with the steps in adding and deleting a program from the Tools menu, use the Clock accessory that comes with Windows.

·To add a program to the Tools menu and then run it:

1.From the Options menu, choose Tools. The Tools dialog box appears (see Figure 7.1).

2.Choose Add to display the Add Tool dialog box (see Figure 7.2).

3.Select the directory Windows is installed in.

4.Select CLOCK.EXE from the list of filenames. Choose OK.

5.The Tools dialog box reappears. Choose OK.

The name of the program is now added to the Tools menu. To run the program, choose it from the menu.

·To edit a Tools menu command:

1.From the Options menu, choose Tools.

2.Select the command you want to edit.

3.Perform one of the following actions:

To do this Choose this command

Move the selected command up one position in the menu Move Up
Move the selected command down one position in the menu Move Down
Change menu title, pathname, arguments, or directory Type the new information in the appropriate text box

If you want to be prompted for command-line arguments each time you run the tool, check the Ask for Arguments box.

4.Choose OK to save.

·To delete a command from the Tools menu:

1.From the Options menu, choose Tools.

2.Select the program you want to delete from the Menu Contents list.

3.Choose Delete to remove the program from the list.

4.Choose OK.

NOTE:

The QuickCase:W, Dialog Editor, and Image Editor tools will already be installed and listed on the Tools menu if you chose them during setup. See the Toolkit for more information about these utilities.
