Searching a Help File

As an alternative to looking through lists of topics, you can use the Search button to have help search for a topic associated with a keyword or procedure. For example, if you want help on saving a file, you can type “save” in the Search dialog box (see Figure 6.9). Help displays all the topics associated with saving files. You then choose the topic you want to view.

·To search for a help topic:

1.From the Help menu, choose Search. The Search dialog box appears. If help is open, you can choose the Search button in the Help window.

2.In the Search For edit box, type the word or phrase you want to find or select a word or phrase from the list of topics. The list box scrolls automatically to those topics that most closely match what you type in the edit box.

For example, if you type “pr” in the edit box, the list box moves to the topics beginning with the letters “pr” (or to the closest alphabetical match).

3.Choose the Search button. Help displays all the topics associated with that keyword in the Topics Found list box.

4.Select the topic you want to view from the Topics Found list box.

5.Choose the Go To button. Help displays the information for the topic you selected.
