Opening Icons and Cursors

Icon and cursor files can contain multiple images in a single file. To work with a specific image, you must first open the file and then load the image.

·To open an existing icon or cursor file:

1.From the File menu, choose the Open command.

2.Choose the file to open.

3.Choose the image you want to view from the Current Icon Images dialog box. Images are identified by their number of colors and resolution. (This dialog box appears even if the file contains only one image.)

·To create a new icon file:

1.From the File menu, choose the New command.

2.In the Resource Type dialog box, choose the Icon option.

The Image Editor displays an Icon Sizes dialog box. By default, the Image Editor displays icon image information appropriate for the display on which the Image Editor is running.

3.Choose the device type from the combo box.

If you want to create an icon image for a different type of device, open the drop-down combo box and choose the kind of device you want to target.

·To create a new cursor file:

1.From the File menu, choose the New command.

2.In the Resource Type dialog box, choose the Cursor option.

The Image Editor displays a Cursor Sizes dialog box. By default, the Image Editor displays cursor image information appropriate for the display on which the Image Editor is running.

3.Choose the device type from the combo box.

If you want to create a cursor for a different type of device, open the drop-down combo box and choose the kind of device you want to target.

Icon and cursor files can contain multiple images, each with its own resolution and number of colors. The Image menu lets you move between the different images in an open file.

·To load an existing image:

1.From the Image menu, choose the Open command.

2.Select the image you want from the Current Icon Images dialog box. Images are identified by their number of colors and resolution.

·To create a new image in the current file:

1.From the Image menu, choose the New command.

2.Select the image characteristics you want from the Standard Sizes combo box.

When you create a new icon or cursor image, the Image Editor loads a blank workspace ready for you to begin drawing.
