Adding Command Separators

Summary: Design Suggestion

A command separator is a horizontal line that divides a menu into two or more sections. Generally, each section contains a group of related commands (see Figure 5.12).

Generally, add separator lines to a menu after the commands are in place. You'll have a stronger mental image of how the commands interrelate.

NOTE::

Inserting a separator between existing commands requires that you use the keyboard.

·To add a separator between existing commands:

1.Make the prototyped window active by pressing ALT+F6. Press ALT again to activate the menu bar.

2.Use the ARROW keys to highlight the command that the separator will appear above.

3.From the Edit menu, choose the Insert command. The Insert Menu Item dialog box appears.

4.Choose the Separator option in the Insert Menu Item dialog box, then choose OK.

The separator now appears on the prototyped menu. Although the separator line does not cross the entire menu when displayed in QuickCase:W, it will in the compiled version of the generated application.
