File Extension

The File Extension key associates a file extension with a ProgID, indicating that an OLE 2 application can handle requests from the Windows® 3.1 File Manager.

Information contained in the file extension key is used by both File Manager and File Monikers. GetClassFile uses the file extension key to supply the associated CLSID.
