Directory information can be shared with a database as well as another server. For example, an organization may store its human resources data in a database. This data is updated when new employees are added, or when other changes are made. When the changes are complete, an application can be run that extracts the new database information and generates an export file in the format used by the directory access functions. This file can be mailed to a Microsoft Exchange Server system in the same organization where directory access functions can be used to update the Microsoft Exchange Server directory. Database entries can automatically become Microsoft Exchange Server recipients.
