permission
A rule associated with an object (usually a directory object) that regulates which users have access to the object and in what manner. Rules associated with the system as a whole are called rights.
personal address book (PAB)
A list of recipients created and maintained by an individual user for personal use. The personal address book is a subset of the global address list.
personal folder
A folder used to store an individual’s personal information, such as incoming mail messages and local documents.
personal folder store (PST)
An information store at the client used to store an individual’s personal folders if directed to do so by a rule. PSTs are often used so that messages will be accessible while the user is offline.
private information store
The MAPI message store implementation (part of the Microsoft Exchange Server information store) that stores mailboxes for users. While the public information store contains information to be shared between users, the private information store contains information to be secured from other users.
privileged service
A service that is allowed privileges usually reserved for administrators. To establish the service, the MAPI profile must already have these rights.
profile
A file containing essential information used by the Microsoft Exchange Client, which includes the location of a recipient's Inbox, Outbox, address lists, information stores, and other information services.
property
An attribute common to all instances of a MAPI object type. Examples of mailbox object properties are owner name and out-of-office state. MAPI properties are included as part of the message objects or other objects they describe, and they derive from the IMAPIProp interface. Each property is a structure that consists of identifier, data type, and value.
property page
A dialog box that displays configuration information to the user and enables the user to modify the information. One or more property pages makes up a property sheet.
property sheet
A dialog box that displays configuration information to the user and enables the user to modify the information. A property sheet is composed of one or more property pages.
proxy address
The Microsoft Exchange Server address for an object that resides in a different mail system. This address is used by the gateway to deliver mail from a foreign system to a recipient on the Microsoft Exchange Server system. In the Microsoft Exchange Server Administrator program, these addresses are called e-mail addresses.
pseudo-attribute
Attributes that are not part of the Microsoft Exchange Server directory schema and that exist alongside the directory schema attributes to provide additional functionality. Pseudo-attributes are available for use only by directory access functions.
public folder
A folder located on Microsoft Exchange Server computers that facilitates the exchange of all types of information between groups of people in an organization.
