The Incremental Change Interface

The incremental change synchronization (ICS) interface provides a mechanism for monitoring and synchronizing changes to an information store’s hierarchy or content. Examples of its use include:

Incremental change synchronization is used by the local replication features of Microsoft Exchange Server.

As explained in About Incremental Change Synchronization, three software components are used with the incremental change interface: the agent, the collector, and the synchronizer. When replicating data to a system other than Microsoft Exchange Server, you will need to program a collector and a synchronizer designed specifically to work with the target system, as well as an agent that runs in the Microsoft Exchange Server environment.
