Creating a Complete Setup Program

This section describes the components of a complete setup procedure. Your application may include some or all of the steps described below.

To perform a complete setup procedure
  1. Query and collect system installation requirements from the administrator. See Collecting System Requirements.
  2. Install the application as a service of Windows NT Server by writing its configuration information to the Windows NT Registry. See Installing an Application as a Service.
  3. If you use an Administrator extension DLL to add property pages to the directory object associated with the server application, install its associated Admin-Extension object. See Installing an Admin-Extension Object.
  4. Certain files are required for applications that use Administrator extensions or address types. Copy these directory-related files onto the computer on which the setup program is running. See Copying Files Onto Disk, which also explains how to copy the application's executable file to the computer on which it will run.
  5. Create the application object in the Microsoft Exchange Server directory. See Creating the Directory Object.
  6. Set up performance monitoring for your application. See Installing Performance Monitoring.
  7. For reconfiguring other system elements as required by the application, see Reconfiguring the System.
