A Microsoft® Windows® installer package is a file organized as COM structured storage. Within this package are streams for each of the various parts of an installation. These streams contain the installation database and either a pointer to the files or the files themselves compressed into a single cabinet file. The package also contains a standard summary information stream and one or more optional streams for transforms.
