Roadmap to Windows Installer Documentation

The Microsoftâ Windows® installer documentation contains general sections that provide useful information to all developers as well as sections that apply to particular tasks and audiences. To help you find the information you need, the following list describes each section of the installer documentation:

• About Windows Installer contains high-level information useful to all developers.
• Using Windows Installer contains a sample application and procedures that use the installer service functions.
• Installer Function Reference contains reference material for the installer service functions. These functions access an installer package to install and manage an application.
• Installer Package Programmer's Reference contains overview and reference material for developers who create or modify an installer package. This section is primarily for developers writing tools to create packages for application developers using the new installer. The information is also useful for application developers and administrators who want to modify the installer package and installation process through custom actions.
