A load is the act of restoring a database from a backup. There are a number of reasons you may need to do this. For example, if the device that a database resides on fails and the database is damaged, you can restore the database by reloading the most recent database dump and the successive log dumps. (If you are restoring a database because of media failure, you must drop and re-create the damaged database before you restore from the backup.)
