SQL Server 6.5 includes an ODBC driver that supports ORACLE subscriptions to SQL Server. The driver is redistributed by Microsoft from Visigenic™. The driver exists only for Intel-based computers. To install the driver, run the setup program from the \I386\ODBCREPL directory on the SQL Server CD-ROM.
Note To replicate to ORACLE ODBC subscribers, you must also obtain the appropriate ORACLE SQL*Net driver from ORACLE or from your software vendor.
When you use the ODBC administration application in Control Panel to register an ORACLE DSN, you must enter a username. The username is stored by the system and is used by the distributor to connect to the ORACLE ODBC subscriber.
The ODBC driver for ORACLE also creates a password key in the Registry. You can edit the Registry to provide a value for the password. The Registry key for the ORACLE ODBC driver password is:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ORACLE\PWD:REG_SZ:password
If a password is provided in the Registry, then the ORACLE ODBC driver will connect to ORACLE without requesting a password.
If a password is not provided in the Registry, then when setting up subscriptions for ORACLE, you must enter a username and a password for the ODBC data source when specifying the DSN in the New ODBC Subscriber dialog box of SQL Enterprise Manager.
Note The ODBC driver for ORACLE that is provided with SQL Server 6.5 is not double-byte character set (DBCS)-enabled.
