Removing SQL Server
When you remove a SQL Server installation, the setup program deletes all SQL Server entries from the Windows NT Registry. It also gives you the option to automatically delete the SQL Server directory tree from the root down. (If you choose this option, after setup has removed SQL Server, you must manually delete the SQL Server root directory and a few remaining files. This procedure is necessary because setup cannot delete itself.)
