Installing Windows-based Clients
You can run the setup program for Windows-based clients from a local drive or from a network drive. Remember that while running setup, you can choose the Help button or press f1 to access the setup program's online Help.
To install client software on a Windows-based computer
-
From the \CLIENTS\WIN16 directory of the drive containing the SQL Server 6.0 installation software, run SETUP.EXE.
-
Follow the on-screen instructions. You will be asked to:
-
Specify the drive and directory where the software will be installed. The default is C:\SQL60.
-
Choose whether to install the optional tools (ISQL/w and the SQL Client Configuration Utility). The default is to install all optional tools.
-
Specify the default Net-Library. This can be Named Pipes, Novell SPX, Banyan VINES, TCP/IP Sockets, or Multi-Protocol.
-
When the installation is finished, a completion dialog box appears. Choose the OK button to exit the setup program.
To upgrade an existing client installation on a Windows- or Windows for Workgroups-based computer, first make sure that no SQL Server client components are running on the computer and then perform the same steps as for a new installation.
