Code page 437 is the most commonly used character set in the United States. If you have character-based applications that depend on extended characters for graphics, use this character set. Otherwise, use code page ISO 8859-1, which provides more compatibility with languages other than United States English.
You can find out if you need to use code page 437 for specific applications by changing your Windows NT configuration to use ISO 8859-1 and then running your application. If the application looks the way you expect it to, use ISO 8859-1. If the application looks unusual, use code page 437.
