CIMOM repository
A database that contains all of the information necessary to preserve the definitions of managed objects, or classes, and support the relationships between classes.
CIM schema
A framework of organizing principles used by schema designers to understand and analyze the information requirements of management applications. Also see core model, common model, and extension schema.
class provider
One of the roles of an object provider by which it retrieves and modifies a provider-specific class. Class providers do not enumerate instances, although they can be associated with instance providers to handle the enumeration. Also see property provider.
Common Information Model (CIM)
The Common Information Model (CIM) defines the model used to represent real-world managed objects. CIM uses an object-oriented paradigm, where managed objects are modeled using the concepts of classes and objects. The logical view of CIM is similar to the view of an object-oriented database.

The CIM is divided into the metamodel and the standard schema. The metamodel describes what types of entities make up the schema. It also defines how these entities can be combined into objects that represent real-world devices.

Common Information Model Object Manager (CIMOM)
A program that handles the interaction between management applications and object providers in a manner that is transparent to each type of component.
common model
The second layer of the CIM schema, which includes a series of domain-specific but platform-independent classes. The domains are systems, networks, applications, and other management-related data. The common model is derived from the core model. Also see extension schema.
consumer-filter binding
An instance of the __FilterToConsumerBinding system class that describes a relationship between a logical consumer and an event filter. A component of the permanent consumer architecture.

Also see Binding a Logical Consumer to an Event Filter, permanent consumer, event consumer provider interface, sink, and event consumer provider object.

core model
The first layer of the CIM schema, which includes the top-level classes and their properties and associations. The core model is both domain- and platform-independent. Also see common model and extension schema.
