Using Browse for Instance to Reroot the Object Tree

[This is preliminary documentation and subject to change.]

You can reroot the object tree from a specific instance by using the Browse for Instance function. The Browse for Instance function allows you to display all objects in the selected classes. You can then select the object you want to be the new root of the object tree.

    To browse for an instance
  1. In the Object Explorer, click the Browse for Instance button. The Browse for Instance dialog box appears:

The Browse for Instance dialog box shows a list of classes in the current namespace. By default, all classes in the namespace are shown. Classes that cannot have instances (abstract classes) appear in bold type. Select Show classes which can have instances to display only those classes that can have instances. Select Associations to display association classes.

  1. For each class you want to browse, select the class name in the Available Classes list, then click the Add button. Each class selected appears in the Browse for objects in box. (For quicker selection, you can start typing the class name in the field under Available Classes to move directly to that class' location in the list.)

You can remove selected classes from the search by clicking the class name in the Browse for objects box, then clicking the Remove button.

  2. Click OK. The Browse for Objects Results dialog box appears. The dialog box shows all objects in the selected classes. For example:

  1. Click the object you want to be the root of the object tree, then click OK. This returns you to the Object Browser. The object tree appears with the selected object as the new root.
