RSM uses the concept of partitions to manage physical media. A partition is a portion of a piece of physical media. Physical media can have more than one partition. For example, RSM reads one side of a two-sided optical disk in a drive with one head as a single partition. Most media (such as CD-ROM and magnetic tape) have one partition.
Partitions are referenced by partition IDs (PARTIDs).
Note RSM partitions are not the equivalent of FAT/NTFS disk partitions or tape partitions.
