Policy-Driven GQOS Components

Admission Control Service (ACS)

A Windows NT service, residing on a Windows NT server machine, that inserts itself into the RSVP message path to enforce Windows NT Directory Service-based network admission services for QOS-enabled clients.

Local Policy Module (LPM)

A Microsoft-provided service that provides network resource access decisions, based on policies configured via the ACS, for the Subnet Bandwidth Manager (SBM) component. The LPM interacts over the network with the client-based Policy Element

Policy Element (PE)

A policy component that resides on the client and provides authentication information to facilitate reservation requests. The PE resides on the client and communicates policy information via a kerberos ticket to the LPM residing on the local ACS. The PE is a DLL provided by Microsoft to facilitate turnkey implementation of GQOS.

RSVP

Carries policy objects (data) between end nodes and the ACS/SBM. Also carries rejections to admission requests back to the requesting node.

Local Policy Module API (LPM API)

The programmatic interface for the LPM component.

Policy Element API (PE API)

The programmatic interface for the PE component.

Third Party API (LDAP)

The programmatic interface that exposes policy information stored in the Windows NT Active Directory. This Third Party "API" uses the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), and provides a specification by which acquisition of policy information from the Windows NT Active Directory can be achieved..
