Microsoft Virtual Private Networking (VPN) technology is based upon the open standard Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP). PPTP is a new networking technology that supports multiprotocol VPNs. Using PPTP, remote users can employ the Microsoft® Windows® 95 and Windows NT® Workstation operating systems and other point-to-point protocol (PPP)-enabled client systems to dial into a local Internet service provider to connect securely to their corporate network via the Internet. Remote users dial into the local number of an Internet service provider, and securely tunnel into their corporate network. VPN technology gives users an economical and easy-to-implement solution for creating secure and encrypted communication across the Internet.
