Windows NT Fault-Tolerance Mechanisms

Windows NT Server offers several fault tolerance mechanisms:

• Tape backup support (available for both Windows NT and Windows NT server)
• Uninterruptible Power Supply support
• Disk mirroring
• Disk duplexing
• Disk striping with parity

Some of these can be used within any file system and some with only specific file systems. Restrictions are specified in the following sections, which provide more details about fault-tolerance mechanisms offered by Windows NT.
