This topic generally explains the licensing of the MSDN™ Library, Professional, and Universal subscriptions. For actual license terms for the Library, Development Platform, BackOffice® Test Platform, and Office Test Platform and Development Tools, please refer to license.txt located in the root directory of Disc 1 – Setup in the MSDN Library CD set, or go to the License Agreement online at http://www.microsoft.com/msdn/services/subscription/eula.htm.
MSDN Subscriptions include a single-user license for the Library, the Development Platform, the BackOffice Test Platform, and the Office Test Platform and Development Tools. The licensee is a specific individual, either the subscriber or a designated individual if the subscriber is an entity. The software may be used for designing, developing, and testing applications that operate in conjunction with the Microsoft® Windows® and Windows NT® platforms. The software is not licensed for production use, and as such you will need to acquire separate, fully licensed versions of several MSDN component products if you wish to use them for purposes other than designing, developing, and testing your software products. The following information is a very general overview of the licensing terms—you should refer to the MSDN Master End-User License Agreement for details.
The Library is licensed to a single user, as defined above. The licensee may install the software necessary for viewing the Library on up to ten (10) computers used solely by the licensee to view and use the contents of the Library as described in the end-user license agreement. The licensee is also licensed to print and make copies of content from the Library as long as it is used for personal use and not redistributed beyond the licensee's premises. Additional licenses for the MSDN Library are not available direct from Microsoft; they must be obtained through your local software reseller via the Microsoft Open License Program (MOLP).
The Development Platform is licensed to a single user, as defined above. The licensee is licensed to install the software included on the Development Platform on up to ten (10) computers, as long as the software is used only by the licensee. Individual software components on the Development Platform may have additional licensing terms specified in the component software.
The BackOffice Test Platform includes additional licensing terms:
The Office Test Platform and Development Tools are licensed to a single user for development and test purposes. Use of many of the development tools is governed by product-specific end-user license agreements contained in those products.
