ACC: SQL Server System Administrator Cannot See System Tables

Last reviewed: May 20, 1997
Article ID: Q109335
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Access versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 7.0, 97

SUMMARY

Advanced: Requires expert coding, interoperability, and multiuser skills.

In order for the SQL Server System Administrator (logged on as SA) to see the SQL Server system tables from within Microsoft Access, the Show System Objects option must be set to Yes in Microsoft Access.

MORE INFORMATION

The Show System Objects option is set to No by default because most users do not need to see the system tables. You can change this option back and forth between Yes and No as needed.

NOTE: Setting the Show System Objects option to Yes will show the Microsoft Access system tables. The system tables have names beginning with MSys. These tables are undocumented and are subject to change in future versions of the product. Changes to these tables are unsupported.

The following steps describe how to change the Show System Objects option:

  1. Start Microsoft Access.

  2. Open any database.

  3. On the Tools menu (or the View menu in versions 1.x and 2.0), click Options.

  4. Modify the Show System Objects option.

  5. Click OK.
