ACC1x: GP Fault Importing Multiuser Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet

SYMPTOMS

If you are importing a multiuser Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and someone else tries to open the spreadsheet from Microsoft Excel during the import process, you will receive a general protection (GP) fault error message, such as:

   General Protection Fault in MSAJU110.DLL at 0007:006E2

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Access versions 1.0 and 1.1. This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Access version 2.0.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Open the sample database NWIND.MDB.

  2. Import data from any Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Use the default choice to create a new table in Microsoft Access.

  3. While the data is being imported, attempt to open the same spreadsheet from Microsoft Excel on a different computer.
