Last reviewed: May 28, 1997
Article ID: Q111780
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Access versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 7.0, 97

SYMPTOMS

Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.

When you try to use a SQL-specific pass-through query as the RecordSource property setting for a subform or a subreport, you may receive the following error message:

Can't use a subform or subreport bound to a crosstab query
in which the column headings can vary

CAUSE

Reports require a list of fields to create a subreport, and a list of fields is not stored in a SQL pass-through query.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
