ACC: "Out of Memory" in Edit Relationships Window

Last reviewed: May 7, 1997
Article ID: Q119784
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Access versions 2.0, 7.0, 97

SYMPTOMS

Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.

In Microsoft Access 7.0 and 97, when you add tables to the Relationships window, you may receive the error message "There is not enough memory to perform this operation. Close unneeded applications and then try the operation again." In Microsoft Access 2.0, you may receive an "Out of memory" error message.

CAUSE

You have more than approximately 1200 columns in the tables in the Relationships window. The exact number of columns you can have in the Relationships window varies with factors such as the length of field names and table names.

RESOLUTION

To create relationships between tables when you receive this error message, delete some of the other tables in the Relationships window that already have defined relationships.

NOTE: Deleting a table from the Relationships window does not actually delete the table nor delete the relationship; it just removes the table from the Relationships window layout.

REFERENCES

For more information about the Relationships windows, search the Help Index for "Relationships," and then view the information for the

Relationships window, or ask the Microsoft Access 97 Office Assistant.
