ACC97: Documenter Does Not Display User and Group Permissions

Last reviewed: November 19, 1997
Article ID: Q176557
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Access 97

SYMPTOMS

Moderate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills.

If you run the Documenter on a secured database, and you select the option to display "Permissions by User and Group," the user and group names are displayed, but the permissions to the objects for the user and group are not displayed.

CAUSE

If the database is secured, the Documenter does not allow you to display User and Group permissions for the objects in the database in a report.

RESOLUTION

If you want to display security information about User and Group permissions, you must create a custom report that provides this information.

For example, you can write Visual Basic code that uses data access objects (DAO) to read and store the permissions for the user and group, and then create a report to display that information.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Access 97. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Open any secured database in Microsoft Access 97.

  2. On the Tools Menu, point to Analyze, and then click Documenter.

  3. In the Documenter dialog box, click the Tables tab, and then click the Options button.

  4. In the Print Table Definition dialog box, click to select the "Permissions by User and Group" check box, and then click OK.

  5. In the Documenter dialog box, click the Select ALL button.

  6. Click OK to run the Documenter wizard.

  7. Preview the report.

Note that while all the objects are displayed along with the user and group information, the permissions for the user and group are not displayed.
