ACC1x: OLE: New Graph Object Frames Are Blank

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Access versions 1.0 and 1.1

SYMPTOMS

When you add an unbound graph to a form or report it will appear as a blank object frame until you either view the form in Form view or print or preview the report.

CAUSE

Microsoft Access does not run the query that an unbound graph is based on until the form is viewed in Form view or the report is printed or previewed. Until the query is run, the object frame will remain blank.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

Steps To Reproduce Behavior

Open the sample database NWIND.MDB.

Click the New Form button on the toolbar.

In the Select A Table/Query box, select Category Sales For 1991.

Choose the FormWizards button.

Select Graph, and then choose the OK button.

Choose Next to accept the default graph.

Choose the ">>" button, and then choose Next.

Choose the Design button. Note that the object frame is blank.

View the form in Form view. The underlying query will run, and then the graph will be displayed.
