ACC: GP Fault Using an Out-of-Date ODBC DriverLast reviewed: June 6, 1997Article ID: Q94219 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSModerate: Requires basic macro, coding, and interoperability skills. When you have an out-of-date ODBC.DLL driver, Microsoft Access may display the following error message:
General Protection Fault (GPF) in ODBC.DLL CAUSEWhen Microsoft Access initiates an ODBC connection, ODBC does not check the version of the ODBC driver. The ODBC Setup program will only replace an older version of the ODBC.DLL with a newer version if the file resides in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory. If the file is found elsewhere, ODBC Setup places a copy of ODBC.DLL in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM subdirectory. This can cause a problem if the directory that contains the older .DLL is in the path and is found first.
RESOLUTIONRename or delete the old ODBC.DLL and run the ODBC Setup program from the Setup disks that come with Microsoft Access. This will install a correct version of ODBC.DLL.
