ACC1x: Setup Program STFSETUP.EXE Causes GP Fault

Last reviewed: July 18, 1997
Article ID: Q95646
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Access versions 1.0, 1.1

SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Access Setup program displays the following error message immediately after trying to update an old version of the Windows Help file (WINHELP.HLP):

General Protection Fault (GPF) in STFSETUP.EXE

CAUSE

The current WINHELP.HLP or WINHELP.EXE files in the Windows directory are corrupted. These corrupted files cause a general protection (GP) fault when you run the Microsoft Access Setup program to update the Help file.

RESOLUTION

Rename the WINHELP.EXE and WINHELP.HLP files in the Windows directory to some other names. Then reinstall Microsoft Access. The Setup program will place new Help files in the Windows directory.

STATUS

This behavior no longer occurs in Microsoft Access version 2.0.
